Which schools are good about gaming?

There is an article about which schools are good for “gamers”. Aka MMORPG type gamers.

Hmm lets see, 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, & 9 are some of the largest schools (well 7 is not large in population but large in geekiness/technology/etc). So it doesnt surprise me that they are on there. #7, GaTech is on 12-15k in student population (havent checked the number recently but they are always in that range) but they have a fucking huge research side. So having tons of bandwidth so the students can MMORPG over is not a surprise.

DragonCON post wrap up

I went to DragonCON again this year. Here is my wrap up.

Three very large hotels (Marriott, Hilton, & Hyatt) in downtown Atlanta got flooded with geeks, sci-fi, games, and the misc other category of people. I was working for CGL this year running games for them. This is the second year I have done it. It was long and tiring and I am still recovering.

DragonCON is here and I will be down there this afternoon.

Like most of the other people that go to D*C (like 50,000) I will be going down this afternoon and spend most of the weekend down there. This year I am not living down there but just coming down for the day each day. We will see how hard that it is on me. Next year I might have to get a room down there.

Paintball is coming…

You are probably thinking paintball has been around for along time… but I am referring to the annual trip to Skirmish.

This is the third year our group has down the Skirmish‘s Invasion of Normandy. This game is a scenario game. Every year the gear has been upgraded. First year we all played with mechanical Spyders but me. I had an Spyder Pilot which is an electronic gun (I upgraded the Pilot from non-ACS to ACS). Last year everyone upgraded their mechanicals to newer/better ones and Badger upgraded to an Autococker. He and Reasinger both upgraded their air system from CO2 to HPA (High Pressure Air). Yeah the married guys raised the stakes. And Badger really wanted to see the “raise the stakes” deal when out on the field he swapped guns with me for a little while so I can check out his newly built E2 bladed Autococker… Bastage! After that I had to upgrade.. Not only my air system to HPA but get an Autococker too.

So I bought a Smart Parts 4500psi regulator and their 68cc/4500psi HPA/Nitrogen tank. And NO I am not going Nitrogen. I dont have the money to run Nitro. Plus HPA is cheap to run once you get the tank/regulator. CO2 is the cheapest to get into to but is farily cheap to run. But since HPA is much more consistent even when the weather changes than CO2, then why not? Plus I love Smart Parts All American barrels. I also bough the Smart Parts duffle bag/suitecase. I also bought a new hopper. Empire Reloaded B.

I bought the major parts of the autococker including the hard to find E2 blade. Badger has the parts and has done a rough assmebly. I just ordered several o-ring kits for the cocker. I also order a generic massive o-ring kit. It has all sorts of o-rings for many many guns so I can fix just about any o-ring now. these are marker (aka gun) o-rings and not tank rings. In my spare parts kit for my spyders I have many many of those and we will probably be ordering more before our trip.

Since the cocker will be running for this trip, I will let Blake or someone else use my Pilot.

12 days to the trip…. YEAH!!

DragonCON 2006

I went to DragonCON this year. I normally dont go. But this year FanPRO convinced me.

FanPRO invited to me to go to the con. They had me run some of their gaming sessions for ShadowRun. Cool. I love ShadowRun. I got to see the new system in play outside my little gaming group. Plus I got the updates on the upcoming books. Aresnal is coming out in Nov instead of Oct due to a art work issue (not being finished). Augmentation is coming out in Janurary or that is the rumor.

I have some pictures. I will get them of the camera and post them soon. The pictures are of the people (a small smatering) of the ones dressed up in outfits.

GenCON 2006

GenCON was great but not as great as last year.

Last year, Serenity was a big seller (sold out first day at 2pm!). ShadowRun 4th edition was a big hit and what made it even more exclusive was them not having any books to start the con with. They were trickling in from the printing press through out the con. Hecatomb was a big hit also. This year, nada. Privateer Press was pushing War Machine & Iron Kingdoms. I like both but it wasnt a big hit/draw. There were no big CCGs this year. No big games (roleplaying or board).

Tweaking the Gaming

I am far from the power gamer, or hard core gamer, etc. I can be but I choose to have a life or….

Ok, maybe I allow life to get into the way. I bought a Logitech USB Microphone back at christmas and could not get the damn thing to work. I got frustrated and through it in the corner (not literally). The just recently I broke it out and started playing with it get the damn thing to work. It does! YEAH! Now I can get on to the teamspeak server for the WoW runs.

The other thing I got hooked up is a Belkin Nostromo n52. Sorta half-keyboard, performance input device thingie. It is odd but works well with games. Generally MMORPGs dont do well with things like that but I am going to give it a try. I have the key buttons mapped out (or at least I think they are mapped out..)

In the last weekish I have made more progress than the last 2 months. Mainly since I started playing again. WOW can be addictive.

I have been playing for about roughly 2-3 hours/day for the last few. I have made it from 16 to 20.5 (yes I know that I am 20th level but I am half way to 21… and I have to think positive!). I was trying to do Duskwood at 19 but I was too weak big time. In a few levels I can go back. But I am hanging out in Redridge. There is plenty to do over there anyways. I just have to power-chug through a bunch of quests. Most are very simple and easy, if you know what you are doing.
