In a recent road trip with Brian, we talked about how bad a lot of the drivers have gotten. Including the pros and cons of automated ticketing systems. This was not the first time (and wont be the last) I have this conversation.

I strongly feel that every other time you get your license renewed you must take the written test again. Yes it is a pain in the ass. But I feel that every few years (10 I think for every other time I will have to check on this) is a good thing. To many people read the rules once, get their license when they are 16 (or so) and then never look at the rules ever again. They forgot things like when approaching a traffic light that has lost power, treat it like it is a four way stop. I would bet 90% dont remember that or just dont care. I am taking for granted that the people just dont remember of being morons that just ignore the rules. But I know there is plenty of those too.

Also if you loose your license for any reason, you must go back and re-test also. Maybe even take a driving class (8-16 hours with of class room would be good). And I would require this class over any Defensive Driving or DUI schooling. Between the inconveniences, the forced schooling and fees that should help force people to start paying attention.
